Rubbish to Runway
Elizabeth founded the Rubbish to Runway Fashion Show in 2011 to raise funds for Long Way Home and bring awareness to the issues of sustainability and waste. She continues to lead this popular yearly community event which promotes the artistic use of upcycled and recycled materials onto the runway.
In 2014 the event was dedicated to Vanessa Morales, a LWH donor whose life was lost in a car crash earlier in the year. Vanessa’s twin sister, Yessenia, brother-in-law, Pedro, mother, aunts and nieces travelled from Texas to the Rubbish to Runway. The Vanessa Morales Scholarship Fund was created to raise additional funds for girls’ tuitions at Escuela Técnico Chixot.
The “Girls, Glorious Girls” of the Escuela Técnico Chixot held their own rubbish to runway this year. They had help designing their dresses but nonetheless they were amazing. Project Runway here they come!
